What is the Summer School?

The European “Development Education Summer School” is a one-week continuing education programme directed at people working in the area of educational activities related to development policy, public relations and campaigns. This year, around 70 participants will attend the Development Education Summer School. Besides participants from the European Union, representatives of European partner organisations are invited to join us.

What are the goals of the Summer School?

The Summer School focuses on current topics related to development policy and wants to stimulate development education activities. The exchange of ideas among the participants, working together to create new strategies, concepts and ideas for development practice is in the focus of attention at the Summer School, which faces the challenge of how to attention to old and new aspects of development policy. In addition, contacts between the participants from different organisations and countries will consolidate the network of educational activities related to development policy in Europe .

In the year of the FIFA World Cup in Germany , sports will be at the centre of attention even for many non-governmental organisations. Informative material and campaigns will raise public interest for development topics during this major sports event. This will also be a main focus of the Summer School. Ideas from the UN International Year of Sport 2005 are to be taken up as well. The positive impact that sports can have on society, for example through “fair play” or team spirit, and global sports enthusiasm offers an interesting background to discuss links between sports and activities related to development policy.

For whom is this program?
